An Overlooked Decor For Your Kitchen: Dressers

While you’ve likely used a bedroom dresser, how about a kitchen dresser? When choosing décor for your kitchen, here are some helpful tips for selecting and maintaining dressers:

1. Know what they are

You may also see dressers called Welsh dressers or china hutches, but they are all essentially the same thing. Regardless of what you call it, kitchen dressers are pieces of furniture (usually wooden) which are designed for use in the kitchen. They typically feature shelves as well as drawers and cupboards in their lower halves – this part of the dresser is also known as the sideboard.

2. Prepare your dresser

It’s advisable that you do this outdoors, to prevent inhaling any dangerous fumes from the dresser. Make sure to sand the dresser thoroughly before painting it, so the paint adheres to the dresser as effectively as possible. Also, take the time to add a coat of primer before the main coat of paint. That will prepare the wood for the coat. When choosing the paint’s color, try to complete the current décor’s color in the kitchen. The hue doesn’t have to match the existing designer kitchen paint exactly. However, it’s advisable to use the various colors in the kitchen to create a color scheme. For instance, you could use neutral colors, primary colors, complementary colors, and so on.

3. Choose your wood

Some of the most common options are Oak, Pine, and Ash. Each of these wood varieties has a unique appearance and texture, so consider each of them carefully before making your selection. Another consideration is the maintenance of each wood type. Some wood types are easier to care for than others are. So if your schedule is fuller than beaches during summertime, then choose a wood variety that’s a cinch to maintain.

4. Know the function of kitchen dressers

Kitchen dressers are designed for a specific set of uses, much like kitchen wall tiles. Many people choose to use their kitchen dressers to store and display their flatware and silverware, though they may also be used as a way to showcase purely decorative items. In the past, kitchen dressers have been put to use for other purposes, including cooling baked items and other culinary uses.

5. Choose a particular style

Not all kitchen dressers are alike. In fact, they can range quite significantly in style. Welsh, Indian, and Mexican are some of the most popular regional styles that you can choose from. You can also choose dressers that have a more traditional look, and ones with a more contemporary appearance. The style of dresser that you choose should be based on other décor in the kitchen, and personal preference. However, it’s crucial to take into consideration the other décor that you’ll be including in the kitchen. The dresser should complement the other décor, rather than detract from it.

Even if you’ll never use it to cool porridge or to prepare meats, kitchen dressers can still function outstandingly in today’s homes. The above tips will help you to choose the right one, and then maintain it rightly.
